Monroe County Court Docket Monroe County Court Docket

Search the Monroe County Court Docket

The Monroe County court docket records the public course of a case, from filing through hearings and disposition. Search the Monroe County court docket through the official statewide case-summary system when the matter belongs to Circuit Court. City ordinance cases may instead stay with a municipal clerk. The Monroe County court docket can identify a branch, court date, case event, and outcome, but it does not display every filed document. When an online summary is missing, old, or unclear, the clerk who keeps the original record is the right source for confirmation, inspection, and copies.

Monroe County WCCA Case Summary

The WCCA portal is the public face of Wisconsin's Circuit Court data. This county overview uses it as its example. Search it by name or case number for a Monroe County court docket.

WCCA is the free public search for Monroe County Circuit Court case summaries.

Pick Monroe in the County field when you know the venue. WCCA uploads fresh data every hour under normal operation. Nightly maintenance runs from 3:00 to 4:00 a.m. Central. A brand-new filing or a reset date can lag behind briefly. No account is needed. A CAPTCHA or fraud-control check may pop up on the way in.

What a Court Docket Shows

A Monroe County court docket lists what the court entered and when. It is not a story of every fact. WCCA labels its public view a case summary or case details page. Read each field in context. Keep allegations, pleas, orders, and final dispositions separate.

Case number Year, two-letter case type, and sequence, such as 2026CV000001.
Parties Publicly displayed names, roles, status, and attorney links as permitted.
Charge or cause Criminal or traffic allegations, or the civil class and claim category.
Case history Dated filings, hearings, pleas, orders, judgments, payments, and other events.
Future settings Date, time, hearing type, branch, and responsible official when entered.
Disposition The recorded outcome, which may include conviction, dismissal, acquittal, judgment, or later satisfaction.

WCCA is not the official judgment and lien docket. Nor does it display or sell public images of Circuit Court filings. For a pleading, order, judgment, exhibit, transcript, or certified copy, the clerk-held file is the real source.

Reading Monroe County Case Numbers

Wisconsin Circuit Court numbers usually blend a filing year, a two-letter type code, and a six-digit sequence. The sample 2026CF000001 shows the felony shape. Other codes: CM for criminal misdemeanor, CT for criminal traffic, TR for traffic or forfeiture, CV for civil, SC for small claims, FA for family, PR for probate, and JV for a juvenile category. Treat these as format samples, not live cases.

Case summary
WCCA's public overview of data entered by court staff.
Case history
The dated list of events and actions in the record.
Responsible official
The judge or court official assigned in CCAP.
Continuance or reset
A move to a later court date; it does not mean dismissal.
Certified copy
A clerk-attested copy of the court-held document.

Copy the whole identifier straight from your notice. One caution applies to traffic matters. A citation number can differ from the Circuit Court case number issued later, so enter each number only where that process asks for it.

Which Courts Keep Dockets

Wisconsin runs a single unified trial-court level. Monroe County's three numbered Circuit Court branches share one Clerk of Circuit Court. Municipal courts stand apart as local courts handling ordinance violations and many municipal traffic matters. Federal cases live on a separate system entirely.

Monroe County Circuit Court Criminal, civil, family, small claims, probate, juvenile, traffic, and forfeiture matters WCCA summary; Clerk of Circuit Court for official files

A municipal appeal can open a new Circuit Court record. A state appeal may get its own appellate number while the Monroe County docket still tracks the appeal-related events below. Cross-references prove neither consolidation nor any particular outcome.

Three Monroe County Docket Branches

All three Monroe County Circuit Court branches sit on the second floor of the Justice Center in Sparta. The phone lines differ by branch. Branch I is (608) 269-8700, Branch II is (608) 269-8926, and Branch III is (608) 269-8875. The official state Circuit Court directory lists each branch plus court reporter contacts.

The three branches do not run three separate docket systems. One Monroe County Clerk of Circuit Court keeps the case-management record across all of them. Call the assigned branch to confirm a hearing. You can also request a transcript there. For docket inspection, filed documents, copies, and general routing, go through the clerk.

Finding Court Dates and Settings

Begin with the newest citation, notice, or order in hand. Then pull up the Monroe County case history and look for the latest future activity. An entry marked continued, adjourned, reset, or rescheduled can replace an older date. That older date may still show on screen. Match the branch, judge, setting type, and how you are supposed to appear.

The county clerk page posts standard calendar blocks. Monday brings waiver and schedule plus initial appearances, and Tuesday covers criminal traffic. Weekdays include bond calendars, and a Tuesday child-support calendar rounds it out. No generic schedule outranks a case-specific notice. The full Monroe County court calendar process also walks through remote-hearing confirmation and the municipal calendars.

Public Access to Dockets

Wisconsin law backs both inspection and copying, within statutory and court-ordered limits. A public Monroe County case summary can still omit a confidential case. A protected document may hide inside an otherwise public file.

Key rules:

Wis. Stat. §19.35 provides general inspection and copying rights, subject to exceptions.

Wis. Stat. §59.20(3) addresses inspection of papers kept by the clerk and register in probate.

Wis. Stat. §801.19 protects specified personal identifiers in Circuit Court records.

Wis. Stat. §801.21 sets the motion process for sealing or redaction beyond automatic protection.

Confidentiality rules bite hardest in certain matters: juvenile delinquency, child protection, adoption, termination of parental rights, guardianship, and civil commitment are confidential or tightly restricted. A judge decides any discretionary seal, not the clerk responding to an informal request.

Monroe County Docket Search Boundaries

After a search match, WCCA opens the public detail frame for the case. That frame comes from the official WCCA case-detail system. It is an interface view of the record, not a private case profile.

The case-summary layout separates header facts, parties, history, settings, and outcome data.

A docket entry with no document link is not proof of secrecy. WCCA does not serve public Circuit Court document images for Monroe County at all. Older converted cases may also carry less data. Each county made its own backloading choices when records moved online. If a docket search returns nothing, check the spelling first. Then check the venue, the case number, and any confidentiality issue before turning to the clerk.

The Clerk and Docket Records

Laura L. Endres is the Monroe County Clerk of Circuit Court. The county and state pages both list her in that role. Her office receives pleadings and enters judgments. It also collects court fines, issues certain court process, and keeps the record of proceedings. Do not confuse this office with the County Clerk at the Administrative Center. That office handles county-board and election records instead. Requesting copies takes a specific written ask and prepayment. Say whether you want a plain or certified copy. Include the full party or company name, and the case number if you have it. Add the exact document, how it should be delivered, your address, and a phone number in case the clerk needs to call. For a criminal name search, add the date of birth if known.

Service Amount
Name search without a case number $5 per individual or company
Regular Circuit Court copy $1.25 per page
Certified Circuit Court copy $5 per document plus page charges

The clerk publishes no fixed turnaround. Volume, the scope of the request, archived retrieval, and prepayment all shape how long a copy takes. Transcripts go to the reporter for the assigned branch, not the clerk's ordinary copy service.

Monroe County Docket Technology

Wisconsin Circuit Courts started electronic recordkeeping through CCAP in the early 1990s. WCCA came along in 1999. It serves as the public web layer. Then came mandatory eFiling. A 2016 rule set it in motion, rollout began in 2017, and the final case types joined in 2019. Monroe County's own conversion date is not published. So treat older local court records as possibly incomplete online. The official Wisconsin Circuit Court eFiling entry is assigned to Monroe County's overview in the general manifest.

eFiling is the authorized filing workspace, while WCCA remains the free public case-summary layer.

Registered parties and attorneys can view permitted filings in eFiling. The public should not treat it as an open document repository. A 2025 statewide update added two-factor authentication for eCourts applications, while free WCCA access stayed the same.

Monroe County Official Search Entry

The Wisconsin Court System's official landing page splits Circuit Court search from appellate search. That routing keeps a Monroe County docket search on the official track and away from unrelated commercial databases.

The state landing page routes Monroe County Circuit Court research into WCCA and appellate research into its own system.

Use Circuit Court search for the trial-level Monroe docket. Appeals from Monroe County head to Wisconsin Court of Appeals District IV. Further discretionary review sits in the Wisconsin Supreme Court. A notice of appeal can show up in the trial history. But the appellate docket itself lives in the appellate search.

Monroe County Municipal Docket Split

A city ticket may never reach WCCA. Municipal courts keep their own ordinance and municipal traffic dockets. Read the court name printed on the citation. Tomah Municipal Court meets at City Hall and posts a Wednesday schedule. Sparta runs its own municipal court and clerk route too. If the municipality lacks the record, ask a follow-up question. If the matter was appealed, ask whether a new Monroe County Circuit Court case was opened. The city file and the circuit file stay distinct. Don't ask the circuit clerk for a municipal record that never entered Circuit Court.

Monroe County State or Federal Docket

Monroe County sits in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. But federal matters never appear in WCCA. PACER is the official federal public access system. CM/ECF handles attorney filing. Federal bankruptcy cases go through the Western District bankruptcy court. The federal clerk works out of Madison, not the Monroe County Justice Center. PACER supplies federal docket entries and available documents, subject to current fees and sealing. The state Circuit Court docket works the other way. WCCA gives summaries; the Monroe clerk gives documents. Federal appeals go to the Seventh Circuit. State appeals go to Wisconsin Court of Appeals District IV.

Court Dockets by City in Monroe County

Monroe County holds two incorporated cities, Sparta and Tomah. Wisconsin's 2025 municipal estimates put Sparta at 10,082 people and Tomah at 9,696. Each city runs its own municipal court for local ordinance and municipal traffic matters. County-wide Circuit Court cases still run through WCCA. The Monroe County Clerk of Circuit Court handles that docket.

Sparta Court Docket

2025 estimate: 10,082

Start with the Sparta Municipal Court for a citation naming the city court.

Tomah Court Docket

2025 estimate: 9,696

Tomah publishes Wednesday municipal sessions and separate payment channels.

Municipal court offers no jury trial in an ordinary ordinance proceeding. Wisconsin does provide appeal and first-OWI jury-election routes, so a later Circuit Court case may exist. Verify the path with the court named on the citation.

All three Circuit Court branches and the Clerk of Circuit Court sit on the second floor of the Monroe County Justice Center, 112 S. Court Street, Sparta. Branches I, II, and III use the Room 2300 courtrooms, and the Clerk's public counter is in Room 2200. This is a different building from the 1896 historic Monroe County Courthouse on West Oak Street, which now houses the County Board room and Human Services rather than the circuit docket.
